Beauty by Nature

Here are some tried and true recipes to pamper yourself at home! Set a day aside and treat yourself to an at home spa retreat, because you deserve it. Don't forget the candles and music to set the mood for total relaxation!

At the bottom is a list of essential oils that benefit different skin types and conditions ~ Add a few drops to any of the treats below to add some extra benefits.

***Please note essential oils are highly concentrated substances! If you are pregnant or breastfeeding please consult a qualified aromatherapist before use. Essential oils should never be applied directly to the skin (with the exception of lavender and tea tree oil). Always dilute them in a carrier  oil prior to use.***

***NEW***

~ Lavender Powder ~
This is a delightfully soft, silky body powder. The recipe makes about 1 1/8 cups.
1/2 cup white cosmetic clay, arrowroot, or cornstarch
1/4 cup powdered lavender flowers
1/4 cup powdered rose petals
1 tablespoon zinc oxide powder
1/2 teaspoon essential oil of lavender
10 drops essential oil of rose (optional)
Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl or food processor. Add the essential oils a few drops at a time and thoroughly incorporate into the powder. Store this in a special shaker container or recycled spice jar. Use within one year.

~ Cool Cubes ~

One heaping tablespoon of any of the following dried chopped herbs:
Lavender - Reduces inflammation and cleanses
Rosemary - Antiseptic, toning, and vitalizing
Mint - Toning and refreshing
Steep herbs in 9 ounces of boiling water for at least 10 minutes, then strain, reserving the liquid. Allow liquid to cool, then pour into ice cube tray. Frozen infusions will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Make green tea and then put it in a spritz bottle and keep it in the fridge, spritz from your toes to your nose to a quick refreshing treat.

~ Honey Delights ~

1. Honey Pat. This is the best way to bring a lively glow to your face and body while you moisturize and smooth. And it’s so much fun! Just bring one of those cute little honey-bears into the tub with you. Squeeze some honey anywhere on your skin and pat it with both hands. As you continue to pat your skin, the honey gets really sticky, and will pull up your skin gently with every pat. This is the BEST for circulation, and you’ll end up with a gorgeous glow. Rinse off the honey when you’ve had enough.
2. Honey Bath. If you don’t have time to pat-and-glow, just add 1/4 cup or so of honey to your bath. Mmmm--sweet, silky, and luscious skin.
3. Honey Shiny Hair. Mix 1 teaspoon honey, a squeeze of fresh lemon, and 1 quart of warm water. After shampooing, simply pour through hair. Let your hair dry as you normally would; you don‘t need to rinse it out.
4. Moisturizing Honey Mask. Mix 2 tablespoons honey and 2 teaspoons milk or cream. Smooth on face and allow to remain for 10 minutes, then rinse.
5. Honey-Apple Toner. This sweet alpha-hydroxy miracle will help to firm, smooth, and moisturize your skin. In a blender or food processor, combine 1 peeled, cored apple with a tablespoon of honey and pulse until smooth. Apply pulp gently to face and allow to remain for 15 minutes, then rinse.
6. Good-Enough-to-Eat Facial Cleansing Scrub. Combine 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon finely-ground almonds, 2 tablespoons dry oatmeal, and enough lemon juice to moisten. Massage mixture gently onto face, then rinse with warm water.
7. Honey Hair Conditioning Treatment. This great formula combines the benefits of honey and olive oil for lustrous, silky, healthy hair and scalp. Simply combine 1/2 cup honey and 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup olive oil (depending on the dryness of your hair and scalp). Saturate hair and scalp with this conditioner, then put on a shower cap and allow the conditioner to remain for 30 minutes before you shampoo and rinse as usual.

If you don’t want even the slightest lightening of color, omit the lemon juice and double the vinegar.
Juice from ½ lemon
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
To make:
1. Combine all ingredients in a pitcher or jar and mix well.
To use:
1. Shampoo and rinse hair as usual.
2. Pour the mixture on your hair and massage into the scalp and through the hair.
3. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.

~ Soft Skin Lotion ~

Ingredients
1 cup dried chamomile
4 tablespoons honey
1 cup milk
8 teaspoons wheat germ

 Instructions
Steep chamomile in milk for a few hours, then strain. Add honey and wheat germ to liquid mixture. Blend well. Place in a bottle. Refrigerate any used portions up to a week.

~ Quick Tips ~

For acne on oily skin, mix equal parts fresh lemon juice and rose water, elderflower water, or distilled witch hazel.

Lemon juice is good for blackheads and acne. Take a
slice of lemon and rub over affected area daily until
condition improves.

A Eurorean Chamomile Facial  ~ Boil water and add it to chamomile flowers. Make an umbrella hood with a large towel. Cover your head with the hood, keeping your eyes closed. Allow the steam to open your pores. Be sure to cleanse your face immediately after the facial. Embedded dirt and blackheads will be easy to wash away.

~ Bathing Beauty ~

~ Sea Salt Scrubby a Dub ~

Blend 3 to four drops of each of the essential oil(s) of you choice (suggestions are below), into a paste of  sea salts and a vegetable oil ( grape seed, sweet almond or jojoba )

~ Brown Sugar Scrub ~

Make a paste of brown sugar and a carrier oil (grape seed, sweet almond, jojoba, or even olive oil ). Hop in the shower and scrub down!

Smooth over skin and then rinse for a refreshing, cleansing treat.

~ Quick Tip ~

Use cheesecloth or cut off a piece of old pantyhose - fill with oatmeal to relieve dry, itchy skin, or some lavender for a relaxation. Tie it tight and attach it to the faucet when you're running the bath. Experiment with different herbs until you find the perfect blend for you!
